Mum saves nearly 30 pounds at Tesco

A savvy mum has shared a 30-second “discount layering” trick that cut her £124 Tesco bill down to £96, saving her £27.28. Mercedes, a 32-year-old NHS assistant practitioner, revealed the hack in a new video on her Instagram account, @mumlifewithmercedes.

Mercedes uses a Blue Light Card Shopping Card to purchase vouchers from leading retailers at a discount, which can be layered on top of existing supermarket promotions for a double discount. The card is designed to help emergency service, NHS, social care, the teaching community, and armed forces workers stretch their everyday budgets further.

Mercedes demonstrated how to use the Blue Light Card app to purchase a Tesco gift card, taking advantage of an exclusive discount. She first scanned her supermarket Clubcard to lower the initial shelf price. Then, she added the Blue Light Card layer, shaving off extra savings on the spot.

The combination of both discounts at the register allowed Mercedes to pay just £96.77 for £124.05 worth of groceries, for a total saving of £27.28. This hack could help put roughly £165 back into family budgets over the school break.

Blue Light Card Shopping Cards are available on a range of big-name retailers. The cards can be purchased through the Blue Light Card app and used like a normal gift card to enjoy instant savings on many favorite brands.

Joe Mathison, head of strategic partnerships at Blue Light Card, said: “We know how stressful and expensive food shopping can be for parents over the summer break. That’s why we want to make sure every member knows how quick and easy it is to save at the checkout using our app.”

Mercedes plans to use the hack on every single shop going forward, and the Blue Light Card website offers more information on the available discounts and who can redeem them. The hack takes literally 30 seconds at the till and the saving is instant, making it a simple and effective way to stretch family budgets further.

Layering discounts is a common tactic used by savvy shoppers to maximize their savings. By combining supermarket promotions with exclusive member rewards, shoppers can enjoy significant discounts on their grocery bills.

The Blue Light Card app is a useful tool for those looking to save money on their grocery bills, and the available discounts can be used in conjunction with other promotions to maximize savings. With the school holidays approaching, this hack could be a lifesaver for parents looking to stretch their budgets further.
