Radley partners with Lloyd Baker Leather to expand internationally - radley international expansion
Lloyd Baker Leather Ltd will manage Radley’s distribution in the UK, US, Europe, and Australia under the new licensing deal.

Luxury handbag maker Radley has named Lloyd Baker Leather Ltd its exclusive licensing partner, enabling owner Gordon Brothers to revive the company post-administration. The firm will now oversee Radley’s product development, supply chain, promotion, and distribution of its handbags and leather goods in the UK, Europe, the US, and Australia under the new deal.

New Licensing Partnership

This approach focuses on expanding international reach and strengthening relationships with retail partners. Carolyn D’Angelo, senior managing director and head of brand operations at Gordon Brothers, stated, “Radley is a beloved British brand, and we are thrilled to work with Lloyd Baker Leather Ltd. This agreement honours Radley’s legacy while supporting its continued evolution and expanding the brand’s reach.”

Lloyd Baker Leather managing director Bobby Malhotra added that the collaboration would merge Radley’s design heritage with the company’s expertise and established capabilities to drive growth across key markets. The decision follows Gordon Brothers’ acquisition of Radley’s brand and intellectual property in May, after the original company entered administration.

Brand Acquisition and Store Closures

The administrator deal excluded Radley’s UK retail operations, leaving its 21 stores and concessions at risk. This resulted in 42 job redundancies. Gordon Brothers’ move to partner with an experienced leather goods specialist reflects an effort to stabilize and grow the brand without direct retail overhead. Radley, founded in 1998 at a market stall in London’s Camden Market, built its reputation on handbags and accessories featuring signature designs and a distinctive Scottie dog motif.

The licensing arrangement signals a departure from Radley’s previous business structure. While the UK retail estate is no longer directly operated, the brand aims to maintain presence in international markets through wholesale and licensing channels. Gordon Brothers has previously indicated intentions to explore expansion into additional product categories, including watches, jewellery, eyewear, and beauty gifting.

Future Expansion Plans

The company plans to expand Radley’s presence in the UK, US, Australia, and Asia, while investing in product development and marketing. The new agreement allows Radley to leverage Lloyd Baker Leather’s distribution network and market expertise. This model aligns with broader industry trends where brands reduce operational costs by partnering with specialists for manufacturing and sales. For example, several heritage fashion labels have similarly adopted licensing partnerships to sustain growth after retail challenges.
