Spar is sponsoring a Yorkshire Three Peaks Mega Event supporting the Lancashire and South Cumbria Hospices Together collaborative, which brings together ten different organizations. Taking place on Saturday, September 5, the event will see the hospices unite with one shared goal: to raise vital funds for hospice care in their local communities.
Participants will tackle the iconic Yorkshire Three Peaks—Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough—in a single day. The route covers 24 miles and 5,200 feet of ascent. It is a grueling test of endurance that promises to reward walkers with breathtaking views. There is a real sense of purpose here.
The list of hospices involved is extensive. East Lancashire Hospice in Blackburn, Pendleside Hospice in Burnley, Derian House Children’s Hospice in Chorley, and St Mary’s Hospice in Ulverston are all taking part. Trinity Hospice and Brian House Children’s Hospice are joining forces in Blackpool, alongside Queenscourt Hospice in Southport, St Catherine’s Hospice in Preston, St John’s Hospice in Lancaster, and Rossendale Hospice in Rawtenstall.

Businesses supporting local care
Sponsorship for the collaborative event comes through James Hall & Co. Ltd, which acts as Spar’s primary retailer, wholesaler, and distributor for the North of England. The company’s support will play a vital role in ensuring that more funds can go directly towards caring for local patients and families.
Philippa Harrington, Marketing Manager for James Hall & Co. Ltd, said that hospices provide “such a wonderful service” to the communities they serve. She added that Spar has a strong brand presence across the region, noting that Spar stores are often found just around the corner from the hospices. This proximity, she said, makes the community connection strong. Catherine Butterworth, director of income generation at St John’s Hospice in Lancaster, stated that Spar’s support is “absolutely central” to making the event possible. She remarked that the partnership shows how businesses with regional roots can make a practical difference by backing collaborative initiatives.
A team of walkers from James Hall & Co. Ltd will participate in the event. Since the company’s Spar Distribution center is located in Preston, the team will walk alongside the group from St Catherine’s Hospice, the local hospice for that city. This initiative was inspired by the hospices’ partnership as charity beneficiaries of the Lancashire Business View Magazine Red Rose Awards in 2025.

Rather than splitting the overall amount and giving each hospice a £500 donation, the hospices decided to create a bigger impact. They launched this collaborative event aiming to raise £60,000 to support patients and families across the region.
