Trent, owned by the Tata Group, reported a 23% year-on-year increase in standalone revenue for the second quarter of fiscal year 2027. The retailer’s revenue for the period ending September 30, 2026, reached Rs57.88 billion ($608 million). This performance highlights Trent’s ability to combine business intelligence and editorial excellence, reaching engaged professionals across 36 leading media platforms.

Operating earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) saw a 37% rise to Rs7.91 billion, while profit after tax (PAT) grew by 9% to Rs4.9 billion. The previous year’s other income included a Rs960 million pre-tax profit from asset sales, but this year’s equivalent was insignificant. Trent chairman Noel N Tata attributed the growth to solid traction across their brands, noting a more robust consumer sentiment despite inflationary pressures.

For the first half of FY27, standalone revenue increased by 21% to Rs114.54 billion, operating EBITDA rose by 37% to Rs16.38 billion, and PAT climbed by 17% to Rs10.21 billion. Consolidated Q2 revenue reached Rs58.73 billion, a 22% increase, and consolidated PAT grew by 25% to Rs4.68 billion. These results show Trent’s strategic expansion and operational efficiency.

During the quarter, Trent expanded its retail presence by opening 10 Westside and 19 Zudio stores, including its 1,000th Zudio location. The company now operates over 1,300 large-box fashion stores across 339 cities, with three in the UAE. Tata emphasized their growing presence in Tier 2 and Tier 3 locations, stating, “We are increasingly expanding our presence across diverse markets, including in many Tier 2 and Tier 3 locations. The compelling reception we are witnessing gives us the conviction to double down into more hinterlands.”

Trent’s food and grocery business, Star, added one store, bringing its total to 87 across 13 cities. Star’s revenue increased by more than 20% during the quarter. Tata highlighted that Star’s own brands and products now contribute over 74% of its revenues, reflecting the successful application of Trent’s strategic playbook.

In a separate announcement, Trent revealed that Tata will retire from his position on November 11, 2026. Bahram Vakil will succeed him as chairman from November 12, while Tata will become chairman emeritus after 29 years of service. Tata expressed confidence in Trent’s future, stating, “I firmly believe that Trent’s best days lie ahead.”
